What is REACH?
REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. It is a regulation which improves the protection of human health and the environment from risks that can be posed by chemicals. The new regulation under REACH covers changes to over 4,000 substances that apply to the European Union (EU) only and are not specific to the PMU industry. These new regulations would substantially reduce concentration limits on certain substances commonly found in pigments. These EU REACH regulations were enforceable from 4 January 2022.

The Commission Regulation EU as of 14 December 2020 can be found here.

How did the EU REACH affect Li Pigments?
Although the EU REACH regulations have identified new and lowered limitations on the various carriers, impurities, metals, etc., updates to some ranges were unreasonably lowered. These new limitations combined with new methods of testing affected some of our trusted formulations and because of the regulations we are unable to allow some pigments to be sold within the EU, as they cannot meet these unrealistic limitations. As per our scientific experience and the 35+ years in research and manufacturing pigments for permanent makeup, we strongly stand by all our Li Pigments formulations as trusted pigments that are safe for use.

With safety being the foundation for our formulations, we will always welcome positive and improved regulations within the industry. Li Pigments is a global manufacturer that will continue to follow existing global laws for existing customers while adopting the new changes to maintain compliance for affected customers without disrupting product availability as much as possible.
